헬싱키-코토누 앙상블
핀란드-베니닌 8인조는 아프로비트와 재즈 그루브 및 화음을 즐겁게 혼합합니다. 퍼커션과 보컬을 맡은 Noël Saïzonou와 기타리스트 Janne Halonen은 2009년 베닌에서 처음 만난 이후, 지난 10년 넘게 네 개 대륙과 다섯 번의 스튜디오 세션을 통해 밴드를 이끌어왔습니다. 주요 공연으로는 몬트리올 재즈 페스티벌, 시겟, 포호다, 팍 홀리데이즈, 한국의 ACC 월드 뮤직 페스티벌 등이 있습니다. HCE는 2018년 WOMEX에서도 공연을 선보였습니다.
Noël Saïzonou (퍼커션, 보컬) 보컬리스트, 퍼커셔니스트, 댄서, 작곡가, 밴드 리더. 핀란드 작가 Juha Vakkuri가 핀란드-아프리카 문화센터인 Villa Karo를 베닌의 Grand-Popo 마을에 설립한 이후, Saïzonou는 재즈, 힙합, 록, 연극 등 다양한 분야에서 많은 핀란드 아티스트들과 작업해왔습니다. 그는 2008년에 첫 솔로 앨범 『Democratie』를 발매하였고, 2010년에는 『Minazewe』를 발매했으며, Afrojazz 그룹 'Trio Toffa'의 멤버이기도 합니다. 2018년, Saïzonou는 Villa Karo 재단으로부터 "Bronze Panther" 상을 수상했습니다. Bronze Panther는 문화 간 상호 이해를 증진시키고 편견을 줄이는 데 크게 기여한 사람에게 수여되는 연례 문화 상입니다.
Janne Halonen (기타) 기타리스트, 프로듀서, 작곡가, 편곡가, 밴드 리더. 헬싱키-코토누 앙상블의 음악적 개념과 프로덕션의 주역인 Halonen은 음악과 연극 분야에서 긴 경력을 자랑하는 프리랜서입니다. HCE를 결성하기 전에 Halonen은 예술적 연속성이 없이 매주 다른 사람들과 작업하는 떠돌이 음악가의 삶을 살았습니다. 현재, HCE 외에도 그는 독립적인 음반 레이블과 음악 관리 회사인 No Problem! Music을 운영하고 있습니다.
Sampo Riskilä (베이스) 베이시스트, 프로젝트 회장. 록, 블루스, 올드 스쿨 R&B 배경을 가진 다양한 베이스 플레이어이자 음악 애호가. Riskilä는 또한 "Roso-tuotanto"라는 사회문화적 이니셔티브를 이끌며, 이 창의적인 온라인 커뮤니티는 배제 위기에 처한 청소년과 장애가 있는 청소년들과 작업하고 있습니다.

Visa Oscar (키보드) 피아니스트, 키보디스트, 프로듀서, 밴드 리더, 작곡가. Visa Oscar는 재즈, 팝, 록 아티스트들과 다양한 작업을 했으며, 2015년에는 솔로 앨범 『Visa Oscar Group: The Fusion Treatment』을 발매했습니다. 또한 그는 헬싱키 예술대학교에서 박사 과정 중입니다.
Mikko Pettinen (트럼펫) 트럼펫 연주자, 키보디스트, 보컬리스트, 작곡가, 밴드 리더. Mikko Pettinen은 핀란드 유일의 프로 빅밴드인 UMO 헬싱키 재즈 오케스트라의 오랜 멤버입니다. 그의 "주간 업무" 외에도 Pettinen은 "Happy People"이라는 소울/펑크 앙상블과 두 개의 비평가들에게 찬사를 받은 재즈 그룹 "Mikko Pettinen Why Not"과 "MP4"를 이끌고 있습니다.
The Finnish-Beninese
8-piece mixes joyfully afrobeat with jazz grooves and harmonies.
Percussionist and vocalist Noël Saïzonou and guitarist Janne Halonen have
led the
band to four continents and five studio sessions over the past 10+ years,
since their first meeting in Benin in 2009. The major appearances include
e.g. Montreal Jazz Festival, Sziget, Pohoda, Folk Holidays and ACC World
Music Festival in Korea. HCE have showcased e.g. at WOMEX in 2018.
Noël Saïzonou (percussion, vocals)
A vocalist, percussionist, dancer, composer and a band leader. Since a Finnish author Juha Vakkuri set up a Finnish -African Cultural Center, Villa Karo, to the village of Grand-Popo, Saïzonou has worked with numerous Finnish artists from jazz, hip hop, rock and theatre. He has also released two solo albums as a band leader, Democratie (2008) and Minazewe (2010), and is a member of Afrojazz group ”Trio Toffa”. In 2018 Saïzonou was granted a Bronze Panther -award by the Villa Karo foundation. Bronze Panther is an annual cultural award for a person who has significantly promoted mutual understanding and diminished prejudices between cultures.
Janne
Halonen (guitar)
Guitarist, producer, composer,
arranger and bandleader. The mind behind Helsinki-Cotonou Ensemble’s musical
concept and production has a long history of freelancing both in music and
theatre. Before forming HCE, Halonen lived a life of a vagabond musician: every
week working with different people with no artistic continuity. Currently,
besides HCE, Halonen runs an independent record label / music management, No
Problem! Music.
Sampo
Riskilä (bass)
Bassist, project president. A
versatile bass player and music enthusiast with a backround in rock, blues and
old school R&B. On top of his bass playing, Riskilä also leads a
sociocultural initiative ”Roso-tuotanto”, a creative online-community that works
with young adults with a threat of exclusion or disabilities.
Juha
Räsänen (drums)
Drummer. An all-around groove
machine who has worked with numerous pop-, rock- and hip hop -acts. Räsänen
appears on Finnish television in a weekly prime-time comedy show ”Putous”, and
a is a requested studio and live drummer in multiple genres.
Visa
Oscar (keyboard)
A pianist, keyboardist, producer,
band leader and composer. Visa Oscar has worked with a wide variety of jazz-,
Pop and Rock artists and released one solo album, Visa Oscar Group: ”The Fusion
Treatment”, in 2015. Visa Oscar is also a doctoral student at the University of
Arts in Helsinki.
Mikko
Pettinen (trumpet)
Trumpetist, keyboardist, vocalist,
composer, band leader. Mikko Pettinen is a long time member of UMO Helsinki
Jazz Orcherstra, Finland’s only professional big band. On top of his ”day job”,
Pettinen leads his own Soul/Funk -ensemble ”Happy People” and two critically
acclaimed jazz acts ”Mikko Pettinen Why Not” and ”MP4”.
